Apostolic in Principle

Apostolic in Principle

Ephesians 2:19-22

19      Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;

20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

21      In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:

22      In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

My relationship with Jesus

Founded on Deuteronomy 6:4-5

Deuteronomy 6

4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

Identity is in Jesus Christ, and so should our lives be

Romans 6:4

4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Does your relationship with Jesus Christ reflect Apostolic principles?

Ephesians 5:18

18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Obedience to God and Authority?

Hebrews 13:17

17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

What do I think about? What do I entertain? What do pursue?

Romans 8:6

6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Psalm 139:23-24

23      Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

24      And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

What do I love? What do I hate?

Psalm 97:10

10      Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.

Is my prayer a dialogue with Jesus, or a shopping list of demands and desires?

Matthew 6:6 (note the numerous scriptures that say “He said unto me”

6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Am I constantly challenged to be Conformed to Christ & Transformed by His Spirit?

Romans 8:29

29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

My relationship with my neighbors / society

Do I act like Jesus to my neighbors? For ALL people?

Matthew 5:13-16

13   Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

14   Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

16   Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

  • positive and negative reactions Christlike?
  • Loving, healing, caring?
  • Instructing, warning, prophecying?
  • Rebuking, challenging?
  • Sacrificing ? Giving even when not asked for or appreciated but needed?

Matt 13:44-46

44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:

46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

Do I alter my personal freedoms / liberties for the benefit of others?

I Corinthians 8:9-13

9    But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.

10   For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;

11   And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?

12   But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.

13   Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.

Do I love people? Can they see it and know it without me having to proclaim it?

Matthew 5:16

16   Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven

Do I pull people closer to Jesus? Do I give them “room to grow up in Him?” Do I take risks of my personal status to do so?

Matt 9:10-13

10      And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples.

11      And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?

12      But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.

13      But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Do I challenge my society by my life? Do I look like the “desires of mankind”? or do I look like “the Lamb of God” ?

Ephesians 4:1-2

1    I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,

2    With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;

Do my language, my words, my honor and integrity match the high calling and example of Jesus Christ?

Phillipians 3:13-14

13   Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

14   I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

My relationship with my Family

Do I honor Jesus w/ my behavior toward my wife? My children? Would they say so?

Ephesians 5:25-33

25      Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

26      That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

27      That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

31      For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.

32      This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

33      Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

I John 2:14-17

14   I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

15   Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

16   For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

17   And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

Am I taking and making teaching opportunities to show them the reality of Jesus in every aspect of life?

Deuteronomy 6:6-7

6    And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

7     And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

Do I live like a King or a Servant to my family? Do I act like a Servant-King like Jesus?

Can my family see the scripture matched and taught in my actions, words and attitude?

2 Cor 3:2

2    Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:

Matt 5:16

  • Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

To be a subject of our daily prayer and devotion to Jesus

Luke 11:3

3 Give us day by day our daily bread.

Is blessed by God

Proverbs 22:29

  • Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.

And is linked to our devotion to spiritual things

Romans 12:11

11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;

We are instructed to be righteous and honest in all our business

Lev 19:36

36 Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin, shall ye have: I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt.

Proverbs 20:10

10      Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the LORD.

  • Our “excellence” in our work should be an attempt to reflect Jesus’ excellence in all things

We are to use what God has given to get more, not borrow against the future

Deuteronomy 28:13, 44

13   And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:

44 He shall lend to thee, and thou shalt not lend to him: he shall be the head, and thou shalt be the tail.

We are to be purposefully generous in life, including through business

Leviticus 23:22

22 And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not make clean riddance of the corners of thy field when thou reapest, neither shalt thou gather any gleaning of thy harvest: thou shalt leave them unto the poor, and to the stranger: I am the LORD your God.

Notice : Not just giving away – but making opportunities to have self-worth and the benefits of work – even if it’s “in the corners of the fields”

But we are to be kind and generous on purpose, to reflect Christ’s mercy & compassion

Acts 20:35

35 I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

My relationship with ‘the Church’

Is my relationship with “an object” called the church, or with people?

John 13:34-35

34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Do I Love people? Want best for them? As a man, am I courageous in loving people?

Galatians 6:1

1    Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

2    Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Do I help others feel the value of being their own Man in Christ?

Romans 12:10

10   Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;

Will I pursue after one who is falling away and contend for their faith?

Jude 1:3

(read in context – it’s personal, not a just doctrinal fight – “pull out of the fire hating even the garment spotted by the flesh)

3    Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

Do I honor the church and lift her up as the bride of Christ?

      – it’s easy to act the critic, but remember who she belongs to, and his opinion of her

Do I honor my leaders, elders, and those who have struggled for me and before me?

1 Tim 5:17

17   Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

1 Pet 5:1-5

1    The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:

2    Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;

3    Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.

4    And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.

5    Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

What is my relationship with …. Myself?

Am I truthful with myself in all things? (ie, soul, mind and strength?)

Deut 6:5

God reveals to us ourself by self examination of … our ACTIONS, not just our imagination of ourselves

Jeremiah 17:9

9    The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

10 I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

Proverbs 20:11, 27

11 Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.

27 The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

Do I seek & reflect a thirst for Righteousness?

Matthew 5:6

6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled

Do I have and demonstrate a hunger for Wisdom, Knowledge and Understanding?

Proverbs 4:5-9

5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

6   Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.

7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

8 Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.

9 She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

Do I pursue (ie, seek, work at and desire) constantly changing myself to be more like the Biblical Admonition of Godly Manhood?

Romans 8:29-31

29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

Psalm 139:22-23

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
